Unfortunatly Racism as well as History and Religion, Geography and Environment have conspired against our country to make of it in the past, a failed medieval kingdom. Unfortunatly for veriety of reasons Gwynedd, a kind of militarist 'Welsh Prussia' failed to unify the Country and subsequently the desire for Welsh Unity and Independance became unachievable despite Owain Glyndwr it was Henry Tudor that was to win and succeed where so many before had been treading towards anyway. The irony on both occaisions when the Welsh came close via Monarchs of Gwynedd Gruffydd ap Llywelyn in the 11th Century and Llywelyn ap Gruffydd in the 13th Century, the end came through betrayal by their own people. The infamouse 'Betrayal in the Belfry of Bangor' confuses as to which native traitors spawned which plot were to kill both leaders. Did it refer to, the truth that both plots and plans to kill the two most successful Gwynedd Royal leaders were made by a collection of Tribal and religious leaders for their own selfish interests of survival.

As for Religion, the Wales that became a Protestant Country and a Protestant people with in time a Protestant Culture, despite difference in languages have come to be so much one and the same in much with England. There was no Welsh Revolt against Protestantism as in parts of England and Cornwall during the 16th century, the Welsh subsquently proved the most loyal of subjects to Stuarts and Hanorvarians as they were to Victioria and now the Windsors. However, the latter part of the 19th Century seen a Wales on an high and doing very well at the tip of the Industrial Revolution success story and Imperial expansionism. This witnessed the rise of a Welsh Liberal Nationalism in the form of
Cymru Fydd towards conclusion of the 19th century post the 1880's 'Tithe Wars'.
However, the advance of both Socialist 'Internationalism' and Labour Party in the Valleys plus 'anglicised' Conservative element in the major Southen Towns as Newport and Cardiff opposed the 'Cymric' Liberalism of Cymru Fydd. History records this clash of interests much based on political and religious idealism as the cause of Cymru Fydd Nationalism failing. However, one cannot but help consider where there other more economic reasons to fear a Welsh Nationalism that might unsettle the strong lucrative arrangement between the Industrial South and competing coal cities of Cardiff and Newport both with the British Royal Navy. Thus economic reasons were a strong motivation to remain British and do well out of the British Empire, this was to be the case right up to the 1914 - 18 War aka WW I.

If there was a time for Wales to have achieved self Governance it was then but it was not to be and Liberal 'Cymru Fydd' Cultural Romantic Wales of Owen M.
