POLAND: BATTLE OF GRUNWALD 1410 - 2010 600th Anniversary. A Lesson for Wales, how to really organise a major commemoration.

.

Whilst I am getting my act together re getting this new blog up and on it's merry way, I endulge in your patience but give you the below which I hope will be of great interest. I doubt if again patriots will see again a major Welsh Medieval Commemorations as Cofiwn organised in 1982 to commemorate 1282 and, the likes of the very successful Embassy Glyndwr commemoration in 2004 to mark 600th anniversary of Senedd Glyndwr and the coronation of Owain Glyndwr there on 21 June 2004. Embassy Glyndwr with Cefn Caer 'Ty Glyndwr' and support of Canolfan Owain Glyndwr, Machynlleth have since organised a small annual Coron Glyndwr Ceremony in the town. There is in existence in the town a local made up working party planning to bring into existence a Gwyl Glyndwr as a major annual festival, if and when they do I am sure Embassy Glyndwr via their blog: Owain Glyndwr Communicates will keep you informed. See Link > Owain Glyndwr Communicates. - Owain Glyndwr Communicates. Promoting an interest in the history of Owain Glyndwr, the Welsh Son of Prophecy, his life, times and society and his great ...
.
However, do note there will be again this year a Coron Glyndwr Ceremony on 19 June 2010, do make effort to attend and support this and any other Gwyl Glyndwr events over the weekend to midsummer's day Monday 21 June. Further note that Embassy Glyndwr at present is also preparing and planning for a major all Wales national commemoration of the birth of Owain Glyndwr on 28 May 1354, 2014 of course being the 600th anniversary. To be kept further informed on all developments re G660, see E.G. Blog: GLYNDWR 660 coming on line soon. Other than above note that the Sleeping Giant Foundation holds a major Glyndwr Festival at Abercraf on and about 16 Medi Dydd Glyndwr, more than suprizingly Corwen does not bother to hold a commemoration, despite having a terrific Glyndwr statue to rally around and an huge Pavillion in which it would be possible to hold a number of celebratory events. C'mon Corwen get your act together!

Quite a few worthy of commemoration, just needs some local patriots to get busy organising, so go to it!

Hopefully all that above will have many of you keen to get into some commemorative action in your own community or by assisting Embassy Glyndwr with their big G660 Plans for 2014. Further, note I have some pretty big ideas over on my blog: URDD BRENHINOL CYMRU: GET TO KNOW YOUR WELSH KINGS, Princes ... URDD BRENHINOL CYMRU. To Inform and educate on the Royal Houses of Wales 'Teyrnasoed Brenhinol Cymru'; Aberffraw - Gwynedd, Mathhrafel - Powys, ...brenhinolcymru.blogspot.com/.../get-to-know-your-welsh-kings-princes.html - Cached . Not least note that later in year I shall be making public my plans for a major Welsh Medieval Festival in central Cymru, at moment given the working project title of 'Medieval Maelienydd'. If in mean time you are starved of some Welsh Medieval Action, do vist Cosmeston Medieval Village, Cardiff's 'Joust' and not least the Bodwyddelan Medieval Festival, unfortunatly the Amlwch Viking Festival has been postponed until 2011. But further note, but why not pobl Ynys Mon this year organising something to mark 410 AD the 1600 anniversary of the Romans leaving Britain, maybe a go CELTIC TRIBES FESTIVAL, ROMANS V CELTS FESTIVAL or maybe a DRUIDS REVENGE FESTIVAL, whatever you get my drift!
.
Hope you enjoyed all that but learnt something along the way, not least got enthused!

INTRODUCTIONARY INFORMATION for your good attention, if you please!

.
REFERENCE WALES: A must have book for all interested and active in all areas of Welsh History, not least in Commemorative programmes, events and activities.
. .
What's worth commemorating this year 2010, for starters how about the 100th anniversary of the Tonypandy Riots 1910, see web for commemorative programme well under advanced organisation.
.
1910 Collapse of the Colliery Dam at Clydach Vale in the Rhondda, killed six people.
.
1910 Henry Rolls of Monmouth became the first person to fly across the English Channel and back non stop. He was also killed in aircraft accident in the same year.
.
1910 First Girl Guides Company formed in Wales at Carmarthen.
.
That's 1910; for 25th, 50th, 75th and other 100th plus further back anniversaries, I suggest you buy the book or get down to your library to check out.
.
Wales is yet to have established a good Historical Association as the below but you can always join this British History Association and form a local branch, there are already two in Wales. Most importantly asap, is to visit the HA website and send for below brochure, it's full of useful information.
.

.
There are however, a good number of local and thematic History societies worth joining as below list shows. I will provide a more detailed post on such in due course.
.
.
New Societies to be established this year, I have heard some scant information on, are a Cymdeithas Llywelyn III and a Cymdeithas Llywelyn Bren, the anniversary of the beginning of his 1315 - 16 Rebellion remember falls on 28 January, see my I'r Gad Welsh Battlefield Campaign blog for further information.
.
Most important for your attention is a series of reports I have done on the WAG New Welsh Heritage Strategy and Cadw's Five Year E.U. Heritage Tourism Initiatives plus progress on the Welsh Contribution to the Cultural Olympiad. I have wrote these reports but now have to edit up suitable for blog posts, this will take at least a month (Jan). But important, very important that you start reading up on all this yourselves and become most familiar with what is under way. My reports have taken me over six months to research and are very detailed with a number of recommendations, proposed projects and some major Welsh History Initiatives. Not least the most urgent requirement, great need to see established a WELSH HERITAGE TRUST - Treftadaeth Cymru. To fill gap left by the Historic Environment Group going into demise, to be possibly replaced by a Civic Trust proposal for a mere Historic Environment Link, this I see as greatly unsatisfactory and aforementioned reports will clearly say why. I shall note be requesting your support in this and other endeavours and, will be organising an informal meeting to discuss such with all those interested in due course, before the month is out I hope, if interested in attending such meeting do let me know asap via an address I shall place in this blog soon.
