First off note that preliminary work on preparing for this major commemoration has been going on for some years:
Civil War 150th

Against a background of controversy and criticism from bodies as the NAACP and other Black Civil Rights groups as well as progressive and liberal minded people. The main issue here is that the South this time around must more fully recognises and adress the issue of slavery in it's commemorative events, activities and memorials etc. This is already against background of a number of years of campaigning to rid the South of the Conderate Battle Flag being officially used by Southern States, a campaign that has generally been won.

The above is just a taster of an issue that is not going to die down and fade away, in fact the 'Old South' long thought to be dieing away is it appears marching back out of the shadows of recent history. Prompted not just because of issues over flying of a flag but since the Atlanta Olympics the 'Old South' has been taking a beating up on what it considers to be it's 'Southern Heritage'. This maybe seen in particular in Hollywood Movies that only show the Confederate Flag if associated with 'White Trash' or depicts the 'Old South' in horror movies were rural White Southerners are seen as 'Incestuous Retards'. Of course such needs to be contrasted by the treatment of 'Blacks' and the issue of 'Slavery' in Books and Films. This I shall deal with in a review of Civil War interest movies in my blog: The Welsh Patriot.
THE WELSH PATRIOT.
- 45 visits - 2 DecSuffice to say now that obviously this has caused animosity and reaction from those who are of interest in largelly white Southern Heritage not least regards the Civil War. However, but then how can such avoid the history, matter and issue of 'Slavery' but it does or at least such is played down. Thus the fourth coming 150th Anniversary of the Cilvil War will, in the South for most part be challenged with no doubt much confrontation on the cards

Issues there are many, that revolve around matters appertaining to the 'Old South' and a more and more desired 'New South'. Such by no means new as ideal and policy, rattling on long before the Atlanta Olympics, as examples in links below indicate:

Meanwhile the British Media is picking up on the above with excellent features as Under a Flag of Remembrance, the South of Civil War begins to rise again by Will Pavia in the Times 4 - 12 - 2010 also in the Sunday Times 2-1-2011 Slavery 'lies' stirs Dixieland Rebels by Christina Lamb. Book wise, a must read if one wants to understand why so much bitterness, then be aware it has much to do with reconstruction that period after the Civil War. Despite having lost the War the 'White South' by various means including the terrorism of the KKK much as the Boers were to do in South Africa came out back on top. The book to read much on this, a real eye opener is The Bloody Shirt by Stephen Budiansky:

- Much is made of the Welsh fighting for the North but there were plenty who fought for the South too and, indeed 'Southern Aristocracy' would referr often to the Anglo - Celtic descent. Hence this 'Southern Aristocracy' adopting Fitz, Mac and 'ap' too as example of Roger Gatesby ap Jones:
